Competitive Start Fund call closes on Wednesday 27th September 2017

The Competitive Start Fund (CSF) aims to support early stage start-ups. This fund is open to early stage companies in manufacturing & internationally traded services, including the following subsectors: Agricultural, Manufacturing, Lifesciences, Renewables. The following are examples of some of the areas included within the scope of the fund: Agritech, Agribusiness, Agricultural Machinery, eHealth, Digital Health, Medical Devices Diagnostics, Cleantech. All applications to the fund must be made via the Enterprise Ireland Online Application System.

Completed application forms must be submitted through the Enterprise Ireland Online Application System by 3pm on 27th September 2017. A Video Pitch must be submitted on the platform by 11:59pm on 27th September 2017 (when you commence the application form an email regarding the video pitch will be sent to you separately). A valid application must contain both a video pitch and complete application form.

Innovation 21:4 new SFI Research Centres officially launched

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has launched 4 new research hubs this month, bringing to 16 the number funded. These new centres are in the areas of smart manufacturing, the bio-economy, neurotherapeutics and 3D printed manufacturing. Finance for the centres will be a combination government funding (€74m) and industry investment €40m over the next six years.

CONFIRM will study smart manufacturing methods

BEACON will find uses for residue left over from the processing of natural resources,

FutureNeuro will develop innovative treatments for rare and chronic neurological diseasese

I-FORM will enhance the efficiency of manufacturing processing through 3D printing.

These centres are designed to be collaborative in nature with 17 research organisations and over 80 industry partners engaged.

It is anticipated that 650 research jobs will be created and supported over the next 6 years

Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Voucher launch

2017’s last open call for Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Vouchers began on September 6th and will Close on September 20th . If you are an SME and are interested in exploring some new, innovative opportunities for your company and feel that access to researchers at our third level Institutes opportunity or problem with a registered knowledge provider. Typically these vouchers are valid for 12
months and can be redeemed at one of the 38 registered centres that provide leading academic expertise (ROI and NI).

Some examples of the areas that these vouchers can be used for include:
 new product/process development
 new business model development
 new service delivery and customer interface
 new service development
 tailored training in innovation management
 innovation/technology audit

Design Thinking Masterclass from the IRDG

What is, What if, What wows, What works?

Brendan Lawlor is delighted to be participating in the IRDG Design Thinking Masterclass being organised in association with NUI Maynooth.(Facilitators included  Trevor Vaugh, Frank Devitt,  Dr Peter Robbins)

Yesterday was a very enjoyable, challenging and informative first day at Finnstown Castle.

Several very useful tools and techniques such as Journey Mapping, Empathy Mapping, Reframing and Brainstorming were used to tackle a number of classic ‘ wicked’ problems. Brendan will keep you all posted on his progress throughout the programme.
