“When will it be ready?” is the most frequent question about the COVID19 vaccines under development. The short answer is soon, but probably not until early next year and even then it won’t be ready to roll out to the general population, but rather will target the high risks groups first. Key for these vaccine trials, as with any therapeutic, is to demonstrate both efficacy and safety. To be sure of both those things, a lot of data from trials involving tens of thousands of volunteers needs to be collected, assessed and analysed and verified by regulatory bodies such as the FDA and EMA.
